ROGER CORMAN

BIOGRAPHY

Hollywood’s oldest rebel, Roger Corman is one of the most influential filmmakers in cinematic history.
Almost singlehandedly creating the low-budget and genre film, he is know as the “Godfather of Independent Film,”
the “King of the Bs” and the “Pope of Pop Culture.”
Roger has produced over 400 films; his most famous being his Edgar Allan Poe cycle with Vincent Price.
However, he also cultivated such genres as the mutant monster film, biker and racing, gothic horror and space operas.
The heirs to his films are the big-budget Hollywood spectacles. The FAST AND FURIOUS franchise, the DEATH RACE franchise and the LITTLE SHOP OF HORROR musical are all based on his properties
Roger's grindhouse style has greatly influenced filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Eli Roth.
Roger also discovered a generation of Hollywood talent including Jack Nicholson (THE TERROR, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, CRYBABY KILLER), James Cameron (BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS), Martin Scorsese (BOXCAR BERTHA), Francis Ford Coppola,Gale Anne Hurd, Peter Fonda (WILD ANGELS), Jonathan Demme, John Sayles, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante (HOLLYWOOD BLVD), Mila Kunis (PIRANHA), Sandra Bullock (FIRE ON THE AMAZON), Will Ferrell (BUCKET OF BLOOD) and many others.
Roger was one of the first American directors to bring foreign cinema to the states, distributing Akira Kurosawa, Francois Trauffaut, Frederico Fellini and Ingmar Bergman.

In 2009, Roger received the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
